| CatalogCode: | NB300-180 |
| ProductName: | Synapsin Antibody |
| Product Description: | Rabbit Polyclonal anti-Synapsin [Ser9] |
| Clonality: | Polyclonal |
| Immunogen: | NB 300-180 was raised against a synthetic phosphopeptide corresponding to amino acid residues surrounding the phosphorylated Ser9 of rat Synapsin I. This is the site phosphorylated by cAMP-dependent protein kinase. |
| Specificity: | NB 300-180 is specific for Synapsin phosphorylated at Ser9. The specificity is defined based on NB 300-180's specific immunolabeling in Western blots. This labeling is blocked by the phosphopeptide but not the dephosphopeptide. |
| CrossReactivity: | NB 300-180 can be used for detection in human, mouse, rat, bovine and xenopus. Other species have not been tested. |
| Packaging: | 0.1 ml Rabbit antisera. |
| Uses: | *The investigator should determine the optimal dilution for a specific application. NB 300-180 can be used in Western blot where a band is seen at ~ 78 kDa, representing Synapsin I. Immunohistochemical analysis has not yet been determined. |
| Localization: | Cell junction; synapse |
| Background: | Synapsin I (synapsin Ia and Ib, MW ~ 80,000 and 77,000 are collectively referred to as synapsin I) is a neuron specific protein that is localized to nerve terminals. The synapsin protein is an excellent marker for synaptic terminals and it can be used to estimate synaptic density and or synaptogenesis. It is thought that synapsin I cross-links synaptic vesicles to the cytoskeleton and thereby limits the ability of these synaptic vesicles to move to active zones and fuse with the plasma membrane during exocytosis. In addition to their role in neurotransmission, the synapsins are also thought to play a role in synapse formation. The appearance of synapsin I immunoreactivity correlates precisely with the development of synapses in the CNS. The synapsin protein is an excellent marker for synaptic terminals and it can be used to estimate synaptic density and or synaptogenesis. The appearance of synapsin I was a precise indicator of synapse formation and that synapsin I immunocytochemistry provides a valuable tool for the study of synaptogenesis. |
