| Background: | CCR2, C-C chemokine receptor type 2, is a G protein-coupled, seven-transmembrane domain receptor protein. It has been found to be a monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1)-specific receptor (1,2). Activation of the CCR2b isoform by MCP-1 binding has been shown to trigger intracelluluar Ca2+ flux and activation of the Jak/Stat pathway (3). A variety of chemokine receptors, including CCR2, can serve as HIV fusion co-factors (4), making elucidating their specific functions important for more fully describing the process of HIV infection. |
