| Background: | Calcium activated K+ channels are comprised of two subunits: a large pore forming alpha subunit and a smaller modulatory beta subunit. Four splice variants of Kcnmb3 (beta 3) have been isolated that vary at the N-terminus and in their tissue distribution. Coexpression with BKalpha of all beta 3 splice variants resulted in only partial inactivation of the channel current. In addition, unlike the beta 1 and beta 2 subunits, none of the beta 3 subunits increased channel sensitivity to calcium or voltage. |
