| Background: | | PPAR (Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor) belongs to the nuclear hormone receptor family, NR1 subfamily. Contains 1 nuclear receptor DNA-binding domain. PPAR subfamily consists of three structurally related members, PPARa, PPARb/d, and PPARg (52 kD, 50 kD, and 58 kD, respectively). PPARa expressed in skeletal muscle, liver, heart and kidney. PPARb/d expressed in many tissues but markedly in brain, adipose tissue and skin. PPARg expressed in adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, spleen, heart, liver, placenta, lung and ovary. PPARs form heterodimers with retinoid X receptors (RXRs) and these heterodimers regulate transcription of various genes. PPARa controls expression of genes implicated in lipid metabolism. PPARb/d stimulates fatty acid oxidation predominantly acting in muscle. PPARg is a key regulator of glucose homeostasis and adipogenesis. PPARs also plays an important role in controlling immune and inflammatory responses. The poly6371 antibody recognizes human PPAR a, b/d, and g isoforms and has been shown to be useful for immunoflorence staining. |
