Background:p300 (also known as E1A binding protein p300) is a 300 kD protein that is highly homologous to CREB-binding protein (CBP). p300 contains a histidine- and cysteine-rich domain and a bromodomain. This nuclear protein is ubiquitously expressed and acts as a histone acetylase regulating transcription via chromatin remodeling. p300 plays a role in cell proliferation, differentiation, and the hypoxia response. This protein is fused to MLL in leukemia and is mutated in a variety of epithelial cancers. p300 is stimulated by nerve growth factor or calcium-activated signaling in nerve cells and by TNF- alpha to increase p300-binding to transcription factors. p300 is modified by phosphorylation and can interact with CREB, c-Fos, c-Jun/v-Jun, Myb/v-Myb, TFIIB, MyoD, p53, HNF-4a, STAT3, STAT6, estrogen receptor alpha, and androgen receptor. This protein associates with PCAF, NR3C1, and NCOA6. The Poly6093 antibody recognizes the N-terminal region of human p300 and has been shown to be useful for Western blotting.
