| Background: | Topo II alpha (DNA topoisomerase II alpha) is a 170 kD nuclear protein that catalyzes transient single-stranded breaking and rejoining of DNA, allowing the strands to pass through one another. Topo II alpha is involved in DNA repair and alters the topology of supercoiled DNA during DNA replication, transcription, chromosome condensation, recombination and segregation at mitosis. Topo II alpha can be modified by phosporylation, ubiquitination, and sumoylation. This protein is increased in late S, G2 amp M phases in transformed and developmentally regulated normal cells, phosphorylation status changes with cell cycle. Topo II alpha has been reported to interact with p53 and the 14-3-3 protein. The Poly6059 antibody recognizes human and mouse Topo II alpha and has been shown to be useful for Western blotting. |
