Background:ILK-1 (also known as integrin linked kinase 1) is a 59 kD is a serine/threonine protein kinase, containing ankyrin repeats and PH-like domain. This protein is localized in the cytoplasm and is highly expressed in skeletal muscle, pancreas and kidney. ILK-1 is a receptor proximal protein kinase regulating integrin-mediated signal transduction. This focal adhesion protein is part of the PINCH-ILK complex involved in maintaining cellular architecture, adhesion to integrin substrates, and anchorage-dependent growth. ILK-1 phosphorylates beta1 and beta3 integrin subunits, AKT1, and GSK3 beta. ILK-1 is stimulated by cell-fibronectin interactions and insulin signaling. ILK-1 is phosphorylated on serine residues. ILK-1interacts with the cytoplasmic domain of beta-1 integrin subunit, PINCH, and the parvins. The Poly6043 antibody recognizes the N-terminal region of human ILK-1 and has been shown to be useful for Western blotting.
