| Specificity: | NB100-64110 recognises murine CD94, a 70kD cell surface glycoprotein expressed primarily by mouse natural killer (NK) cells. The murine CD94 molecule forms heterodimers with NKG2A, C or E subunits to form the CD94/NKG2 receptor.In mice the CD94/NKG2 receptor recognises Qa-1b, a non-classical MHC class 1 molecule. CD94/NKG2 receptors may play an important role in self-tolerance of NK cells during fetal and neonatal life.N.B. Recent reports suggest that DBA/2J mice do not express cell surface CD94/NKG2A receptors (1). |

| Background: | CD94 plays a role as a receptor for the recognition of MHC class I HLA-E molecules by NK cells and some cytotoxic T cells. Natural killer (NK) cells are a distinct lineage of lymphocytes that mediate cytotoxic activity and secrete cytokines upon immune stimulation. Several genes of the C type lectin superfamily, including members of the NKG2 family, are expressed by NK cells and may be involved in the regulation of NK cell function. KLRD1 (CD94) is an antigen preferentially expressed on NK cells and is classified as a type II membrane protein because it has an external C terminus. KLRD1 has two alternatively spliced variants that differ in the presence or absence of exon 2 sequence. |
