| Specificity: | NB100-63091 recognises mouse STAT4, a transcription factor which is essential for mediating responses to interleukin-12 (IL-12) in lymphocytes, and for the function and development of T helper cells. STAT4 is activated in response to cytokine cell signalling, which first activates the kinases Tyk2 and Jak2. These in turn phosphorylate and activate STAT4, which forms homo- or heterodimers with other STAT proteins, and translocates to the nucleus. Here STAT4 can bind DNA and directly activate cytokine target genes. Stat4 expression is restricted to myeloid cells, thymus and testis, where it exists in two forms; full length STAT4 (STAT4á), and an isoform lacking the C-terminal amino-acids that comprise the transactivation domain (STAT4â). |
